Tiger King Review/Q&A/200th Post Celebration!

Hello everyone, it’s me, The Blog Complainer and welcome to this triple pack 200th post. We have a lot to get through so let’s begin.

The back end of my second year as The Blog Complainer has been a bit rough. The main thing being this virus that has delayed all of the big releases and banished me to my own home. The last movie I watched at the cinema was Bloodshot (which sucked) and now I can watch it again on VOD for $24! I want to quickly rant about this. These early release prices are absurd and why would I pay to watch Emma for $30 when I can watch Spies in Disguise for $7! Bottom line is I will not be reviewing any of these movies unless the price drops or they move over to a streaming service. Besides, I’m busy watching old stuff.

On the plus side some of you seem to have enjoyed my April Fools post. During this isolation period Patty Vat Cupcake was a really good distraction for a couple days and it’s definitely my most ambitious project. I appreciate the love and I recommend checking it out if you haven’t already done so. That’s about all I have to say here. Thanks for the support and let’s make it out of this safely.

Q&A

This section isn’t too long as I’m keen to move onto the main course.

What is your Most Watched Movie?

I had to think about this one for a bit and honestly I don’t know because when I was young I watched the same set of movies and shows over and over again like it was my religion. Indiana Jones or the pre-Disney Star Wars movies were probably the series that I watched the most. I was mainly an animation kid and I liked watching Madagascar, The Lion King, Wall-E, Monsters Inc, The Simpsons Movie, The Road to El Dorado or Lilo and Stitch, just to name a few.

Do you ensure that you are in the right mindset before watching a movie, and are you in the same mindset each time to ensure that your reviews are all on a level playing field?

In most recent times my mindset is always neutral when judging a movie and after I watch it I try to translate my overall feelings into the final product. I guess, depending on who made it or if I liked the previous movie, I might be a bit more interested, but mainly my goal is always to stay open minded and optimistic so I don’t sound like some jerk who’s out to hate this particular movie or some overexcited fanboy with very unrealistic expectations.

What do you eat whilst watching a movie?

I only picked this question because besides movies my favourite pastime is eating delicious food. I’m not that interested in making it because I’m too lazy, but I love to devour a good meal. For such a lover of food I am surprisingly not fat, I’m actually pretty damn skinny and also quite short compared to other males my age.

After what I just described it may surprise you that I rarely eat food while watching a movie. If I do eat, it’s always a packet of chips and I don’t start eating until the movie starts, but it can be a bit tedious sitting there through 30 odd minutes of ads while other people I’m with are already munching on their popcorn and sipping  on their coke.

Of all the movies you’ve seen which one had the most annoying character?

Damn, that’s going to be hard as I have seen plenty of movies featuring annoying characters, especially in the realm of supporting characters such as the comic relief or love interest. Since I mentioned Indiana Jones earlier does anyone remember Indy’s love interest Willie? I cannot stand her so I love it in The Last Crusade when the love interest turned out to have slept with Sean Connery and is also a Nazi. For a main character,  Anakin from Attack of the Clones is a very whiny unpleasant person in general.

Can you rank all of the Tarantino movies?

Having just recently seen The Hateful Eight inspired me to pick this question and at the time of this post I have only seen seven of his movies so I’ll just rank those.

  1. Inglorious Basterds
  2. Kill Bill Vol. 2
  3. The Hateful Eight
  4. Once a Upon a Time in Hollywood…
  5. Pulp Fiction
  6. Reservoir Dogs
  7. Kill Bill Vol. 1

That’s it for questions let’s talk about Tiger King.

I don’t talk about many TV shows, nor do I think I have ever talked about documentaries on this site before, but with the lack of new movies to watch this show was a very attractive option.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness is a documentary mini series and is currently the most popular show on Netflix. The show focuses on several private zoos dotted about the US, all of which have a large collection of tigers, and mainly follows the war between charismatic zookeeper Joe Exotic and hippie like animal activist Carole Baskin as they seek to expose and ruin each other.

I’m not really a documentary expert, but I found Tiger King thoroughly entertaining. This little war is the kick-off point for the show to extend out into other areas and it slowly grows into a dark twisted tale that escalates as the story progresses. There are only seven episodes and it was episode 3 that really got me interested in this cat culture that I have never heard of before this show.

The best way I describe my experience with Tiger King is like I’m watching a reality TV show as it’s structured in a way where it has it’s light moments and those ‘OH MY GOD’ moments. The other reason is these people we focus on are crazy sociopaths. Right from the getgo I had a feeling the animal activist wasn’t as nice or as friendly as she made herself out to be and Joe Exotic isn’t much better as he is bat-shit crazy. There aren’t many decent people here but from the interviews you get a good understanding of where all these terrible people are coming from.

There’s a lot you can take away from this show. What I got from it is that the tigers aren’t too relevant except for being props used by these guys to gain power over people. It also exposed a whole new crime network between these different zoo owners. It was quite educational and hopefully some good things come out of this show.

I don’t think I would ever rewatch this show as like most reality TV once you have seen it you don’t ever need to watch it again. I recommend it if you want some good easy digestible TV. 9/10.

Wow, I talk a lot and I guess if you made it this far then congratulate yourself. More posts to come in the near future and I have been The Blog Complainer, signing out.

I review stuff and hate on everything you ever loved. But I’m still a super nice guy and make pretty entertaining content.
