Avengers: Endgame – First Impressions (Spoiler Free)

So, a little indie movie came out today.  It is called Avengers: Endgame and is directed by the Russo Brothers.  It stars every actor on the entire planet as they all come together to defeat evil. It’ll probably make you laugh, make you cry, make you cheer, maybe make you cringe, but it’ll definitely make you think about the toilet for the last 40 minutes.

If you intend to see this film and want to have the perfect experience then I recommend not reading this review until after you’ve watched it, or you can stay and hear my basic thoughts as I won’t be going into detail at this stage. I will do a spoiler discussion in about a week’s time where I’ll focus on the plot. Lastly, I’m going to presume you’ve seen Infinity War. Enough rambling, let’s talk about Avengers: Endgame.

I liked the advertising for this movie.

Avengers: Infinity War was the first 2018 movie I ever reviewed on my site. I re-watched it last night in preparation for today and it helped make me think about the possible outcomes for our heroes. My overall reaction would probably be pleased. I pretty much got everything I wanted from this movie. It’s fun, emotional and interesting. While I still had my issues, I think my overall feeling towards this movie was pretty positive.

The most vague version of the plot I can offer is that we have the aftermath of everyone turning to dust and we follow the few remaining survivors who are trying to move on from this devastating defeat. The first act felt a little bit under developed as things are moved hastily along to get to the more fun and exciting second act where they start working on their comeback against Thanos. That’s as far as I’m going to go with the plot. This is just the demo, the real thing will be out in a week.

There isn’t much action in this movie which is refreshing after Infinity War. This one is more character centric as the original Avengers get alot of screen time. Endgame has some of the best character interactions in the series and the banter is really good. It reminded me of how great the chemistry was in the first Avengers movie. There are lots of great performances in this movie so I’ll just make it quick. Cap gets more attention which is great, Thor is really fun once again and Ant-Man is always better when he’s not in his own movies. I also really liked Nebula as she’s probably the most fascinating character to learn about. Lastly Robert Downey Jr gives it his all and I really liked what they did with Tony in this movie.

I should do a MCU marathon.

It’s not perfect as there are some things that simply won’t make any sense unless you turn your brain off. This is something that bugs me as I’m the type of person who probably looks too deeply into this stuff and this movie isn’t meant for deep thinkers. After seeing this movie I’m still not convinced as to why I needed to sit through Captain Marvel. There is some impressive cinematography here but it looks kind of bad with the over reliance of CGI, although some of the CGI looks really good in some areas. I guess the score also sucks which isn’t new for a Marvel movie.

The last thing I want to focus on is the title – Endgame.  I kind of expected it to go the way they chose but it still took me off guard. I think the Endgame part was handled really well and I’ll be interested to see where this goes. I guess I’ll give one thing away – there are no post credit scenes which I’m kind of glad of because after Infinity War they all felt like a waste of time. Also another benefit is that I just spared you 8 minutes of bladder holding time. This movie is three hours long so be careful what you drink beforehand.

Overall, as a fan of these movies, I was very pleased with what I got. I think I had one of the best movie going experiences of my life. Avengers: Endgame was great, 8/10. I do plan to see it again so by then I might have a better analysis on this movie. So if you are going to see it then I guess this review is telling you to hurry up!

Avengers assemble in a cinema near you.

To respect those who haven’t seen Endgame I’m banning spoiler comments. I’ll be deleting them if you make any. Stay tuned in a week’s time when I focus on the plot. Until then, I have been The Blog Complainer, signing out.

I review stuff and hate on everything you ever loved. But I’m still a super nice guy and make pretty entertaining content.

Joy, Emotions and finally an ending.
This is the movie for which the whole world waited. We won’t get an another movie like this for sure.
Love, Emotions, Friendship , goosebumps and fight scenes are perfectly scripted.
One main theme is ‘Sacrifice’ yes it’s needed in our real life too but we can’t or won’t bear it.
